Panama Sport Horses have specialised in the retraining of Racehorses for many years. Racehorses we have retrained have progressed to compete to international level over a range of equine disciplines. This work has increased with our close association with Joss Saville Racing.

In recent years more and more people are realising the suitability and advantages of using retrained racehorses for other equine disciplines and for general riding.  The many reasons for racehorses to be retired from racing or never raced are often the very attributes other disciplines are looking for. Plus Horses from the racing world will have benefited from breeding to produce the highest level of fitness and health and will have received the best health care. Also the constant handling they experience during their racing career or preparation for racing provides a solid foundation for retraining.

Racehorses can be retrained for new careers in Showjumping, Dressage, Eventing, Endurance, Polo, Showing and general riding. The expertise at Panama Sport horses ideally places them to select the correct retraining programme for each ex racehorse based on their ability aptitude and temperament.

Below are some reasons why racehorses are sent for retraining:

• They are just too slow for racing
• The don't like the hustle and bustle of the racetrack
• Many are rejected because they jump too well!
• They are also rejected because they have too calm a temperament
• Some also find it hard to cope with the routine of a large yard
